Are beginners welcome?

Just joined today . Everyone seems quite advanced. I'm not an absolute beginner but I usually play for fun. Do you think this is the right site for me?

I don't think everybody is quite advanced here. You can find opponents at all levels on this site. I hope you will enjoy it.

You are absolutely welcome here! I'm sure you"ll find many players that share the same skill level as you and as artfizz already mentioned, the great community here is CHESScom greatest strength so don't hesitate to ask about something you aren't sure about on the forums! Also, don't get the impression that we're all really advanced from the weird names(sicilian defense, philidor position, maroczy bind etc) that pop up around here, I'm sure everyone was confused at first.

This is perhaps the best chess site on the internet for beginners. There are lots of learning resources available to improve your game, and plenty of players at a similar level to spar with.

Then of course we have these marvellous forums, and if you have any queries, stronger players are always happy to help.

If you're going by the forums, I think more accurate would be that everyone THINKS they're quite advanced.
