Are Fbombs allowed now in the general forums?

I was just wondering if there had been a change of policy.  I see at least two or three a day now, along with other "colorful" language.  Or has the site just gotten too big to be effectively moderated?  I'm not personally offended, but I thought we were trying to keep this a family friendly site.

There are probably so many posts that it becomes cumbersome to monitor all of them quickly. Would they likely be weeded out in a few hours' time?

Wow, I just read the forum post you are most likely referencing, though. Wow, I'm taken aback!

Maybe V3 will bring an easier way to report bad language.  I have reported a few users who were obviously trying to get thrown off the site, but the casual use of such language seems now so common that it doesn't seem to be worth the effort of filling out a report.

No, there hasn't been a change of policy. But I believe they (the mods) simply stopped caring too much. They're more than welcome to refute my assertion by posting in this thread.

Ah yes, the good old "F Bomb", also known as a "Feather Bomb" or "Flutter Bomb". Traditionally a bag filled with feathers or birds such as ducks, launched at a friendly target in a friendly contest. One of the main things families are good at. But occasionally misused,in a fit of that other F feeling: Frustration, from losing a chess game.

I thought "f-bombs" were family friendly. They were never shied away from in my family anyway.

I'm not a swearing person myself, but I never understood everyone being scared of a word.

It's just a word and chances are the average child will hear a ton of swear words in his public school on a weekly basis.

I consider parents who actually fear their children might hear some "bad" words to be a complete fail at parenting tbh.

If someone cant bring up their kids in a way that makes then robust enough to not break upon hearing "bad" words, why were they having kids in the first place if they're such incompetent parents ?

You make a valid point Sandbagger.  The problem is that if no language boundaries are set, the forums will quickly devolve to the lowest common denominator, and I don't think we want to see that happen.

They pretty much have already, with or without language boundaries.

Just a word ?  Racial slurs and hate speech are also only words ... understand now ?

Bad Dog and fellow Bay Stater:

I have seen f-ck and other swear words regularly in the general fora for the three years I've been on this site.  Context is taken into account.

Is change now brah

First, are you a parent?

I am. My wife and I choose to raisie our children to not use that kind of language. Have they heard it? Sure, sometimes by my mouth (although I do  ot know they have ever heard the f-word out of my mouth).

We choose to teach our children that resorting to using that kind of language shows:

a) immaturity;

b) lack of intelligence in expressing yourself;

c) no class.

(And yes, that shows all of those things in me when I use them.)

In the business world (dealing with CEOs and COO ass well as CIOs, IT professionals, etc.) I would not be employed very long if I resorted to that language.

Do I think my children are "saints"? Nope. Do I think they use that language? Yup. But that does not mean that we should abandon trying to teach them how to be civilized in their communication skills.

I consider myself to be a success at parenting in that I am rearing my children to be intelligent, civilized, and mature adults that can communicate without resorting to language that the vast majority of the world considers vulgar.

I am far from incompetent as a parent. I am taching my children to be leaders, adults who can make a positive difference in the world.

This is today's exhibit A, and to give the mods credit, it's been both cleaned up and locked.

On the East Coast at least, high level financiers, stock brokers, investment bankers, hedge fund managers, attorneys swear like crazy.

Nixon and his cronies also cussed up a storm.

Does not mean it is right, or mature, or civil. Just becasue others do it, does not make it right.

I live on the east coast.

I deal with CEOs, COOs, and CIOs all up and down the east coast and across the U.S. (try Starwood Hotels, Disney, Hilton Hotels, etc.). We do not have conversations full of swearing, never have.

No, I don't. Maybe the reason is that you are mixing two different things up.

One thing is swear words, like a person saying "I had a [swear word] bad day."

The other one - the racial slur you mentioned - is an insult. Insulting a person is forbidden by law in most countries and therefore a completely different thing than cursing the bad day one had (which is only against the perceived code of behaviour called political correctness, not against the law).

As I said before, I am not a swearing person myself, but I find the fact people seem scared of the word hilarious. I do NOT condone insulting others, however, and I am against hate speech of any kind...understand now ?
