Are People on Chess.com really to play Chess?

A lot of people create an account but don't actually stick around. Others are actually here for the social aspect of the site and rarely or never play a game. Others play only unrated and probably don't show up in the leaderboard.
I'm not. I'm mainly here for other things. But I do play chess on the side.

Some people are here only to discuss chess, like talk about chess endings, or play chess puzzles. I pretty much only play custom variants, which don't get recorded as games. But you're right - there seems to be a lot of accounts that don't do much.

In game stats I think they don't count inactive players.
did anyone say they dont count inactive players? i just went through the leaderboard and inactive players also existed there.

saurav is basically right...there are lots of people here that don't play, but many seem to post in the forums anyways....it would add more credence to their comments if they actually played a bit so we could see a rating at least....

actually an interesting question for an answer but reading the entire question I miss some points and logic in it. U come with a pseudo-calculation and based on that u question the people playing really chess here?
People are here for different reasons, there's way more than your BLITZ. Always fascinating people who stick to one 'niche' of the world think all other people do the same. Also the amount of registrations of an account doesn't imply that they are different people, doesn't imply they are no test user (a lot were created in 2007) and doesn't imply they are active looking do be active on this site.
On the other side, if you reduce the amount of your 20 million registrations by bots, test user, double registrations, trolls, 2q0c's, second and third accounts by titled player, by user playing mainly against the computer ... then you might end up with way less than 20 millions ... but enough to have fun playing chess on this side.
