Speak not much, but understand Polish, English, Dutch, German and Russian (but it depends on what kind of letters is it, I understand the ones in books but not the ones that people use to write on paper)

That's an impressive range-- an East Slavik language (Russian), a Lechitic Slavik (Polish), and 3 West Germanics (English, Dutch, German)!  I imagine you run into some French too, or will more often as your chess-related international travel increases.

Europe isn't like the US. A land mass equivalent to ours contains several different countries which provide the opportunity to interact with people in several different languages. It's also possible that his parents speak multiple languages, and he learned that way. You could practice Spanish with native speakers EO___________________________.
