It isn't patience but opportunism, but there is one great exercise that would teach you if you started it in childhood like I did. You are walking through a commercial/office building, and in front of you, automatic doors are starting to close. Can you dance between the door and the jamb without fouling?
Try studying a foreign language. It's a slowdown kind of process for sure. A lot of super GMs speak many foreign languages fluently btw.

PDVE. There is a concrete way you can delay your moves. Write in computer long hand. Instead of writing NF3, write NG1-F3. Sometimes I do this otb, to slow thinking, which puts me into a patient mental state. I switch to short hand, if in time pressure.
