No, I was addicted to World of Warcraft and I use hammering patzers on this site to help me get over that prior addiction.
I would give up chess if I could become a world class economist. Hell a worldclass anything (that paid that is). LOL

the fame doesnt necessarily correspond to the amount of money you make.
Even though having Ken Rogoffs job is definetly a dream
LOL - I'm a free member so I get the ads. When I pulled up this forum again after I had posted one of the ads was for substance abuse rehab centers in my area.
I got an ad also, for a rehab center in Napa Valley. I guess you can go wine tasting between meetings.
I'd need to replace chess with something else. The internet itself is addictive. Combine the two...chess and the internet and you have a high probablity of addiction IMHO.
Might forget to eat.might get to bed before the sun comes up, give up chess?Only if in the hospital maybe.....
Chess.......whackadoodle...................................................................................................................................................................................I LIKE IT!
Holy crap, you see how far those dots are extending? Whackadoodle indeed!

btw do you know what happened to the american investor that all of a sudden changed his profession and went all out in whine and bought one american wine company after another??
I dont live in america and pitty on me i have forgotten the name of the guy, but it would really interest me if the guy had success or went bust.
"Addicted" is a strong word. A "meth-head" may go out and mug someone to feed their addiction. I've yet to hear of a chess "addict" who has gone that far. So, "chess-whackadoodle" is probably a term.
Addiction doesn't have to mean violence or agression against someone else. Addiction means more along the lines of inability to not do the thing or action instead of more prudent things like work, sleep, food etc. Think online gaming, sex, food, gambling and of course chess. Perhaps were all addicts and this planet is simply a penal colony for addicts, hmmm... that has potential. I wonder if I can get Matt Damon to act in my new movie now too. LOL
If so, here are a couple of good links about why Ken Rogoff gave up chess to become a world-class economist. The BBC radio interview in the first link is very interesting.

I'm not saying that anyone should give up chess. It's for the "addict" to decide for himself. lol
