Are you supposed to accept a rematch offer on live chess?

I never accept a rematch offer and I never offer a rematch - that´s my point of view.

Even a simple starfish is ok with hanging out with the jellyfish.  If its good enough for Patrick, its good enough for me.

Just what are you trying to say, X? Are you suggesting that the brave and dangerous brainless jellyfish are somehow a metaphor for cowardly chess players?

Recently, a user challenged me to a rematch blitz game which I declined. As part of my pre-church Sunday morning routine, I like to get in as many chess games as possible and 3 min. games are the best way to do this and I'm not always going to do a rematch because I want to play a lot of players. As such, I declined his rematch and my inbox of messages was filled with messages from him calling me a coward and a runner and that I should look for some b****. I told him, I'm looking for you in my blocked list. Further, dragons are noble creatures and not cowardly or brainless so if my pic says it all than it says that people who do not accept rematches are brave, noble, and intelligent and can rip you to shreds whenever they want but they are also a tad lazy and like their beauty sleep so they won't do it right now.

These people are so annoying. I sometimes have to go offline but then they keep trying to rematch...

Offering and accepting rematches is fine and reasonable. When two gentlemen (or ladies, or a lady and a gentleman) have a chess battle that lifts both of them because it is good competition, a rematch might almost be expected.

When a couple of patzers engage in a blunderfest that was decided by one player's poor clock management or gross blindness, a rematch might be generous, but still seems a little silly--as if both players are obsessed with offending Caissa.

When one player leaves offending messages on the other's wall, the absence of manners screams, "create another forum thread."

Yep i just created new one.  Short ver. Nobody plays for anything but Elo points/Rating. You lose you run. You win, want rematch, other guy runs and you type bad words and block him.

Yes

I rarely offer a rematch--mainly when I feel the competition was very good (both very evenly-matched and hard-fought), and when I have the time.

I usually accept rematch requests (or sometimes even offer them) when I win a game that was decided in an unfortunate manner, such as an unlucky blunder or a blowout that did not represent the true skill of the losing player.

vinniethepooh

In my experience, usually when people keep winning, they offer rematches. The moment they lose one game. The rematch stops, and the "gg" stops as well. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with offering rematches, denying rematches.

Ziryab

No.

bong711

If I got time, yes. But after 2 consecutive wins, bye.

Let's see how many "rematch" complaint threads we can revive.
