Are you supposed to accept a rematch offer on live chess?

Win or lose I never accept rematches. There's too many other people to play. Anyone who gives me a hard time about it gets blocked.

By the way I usually play chess at another website (everything is free, no ads, and everything is better including computer analysis of games) at http://en.lichess.org

Do you save your games into a database? Do you prefer the extra nonsense that lichess puts into the PGN file?

Do you find that lichess's seek graph works more smoothly than chess.com?

I play there, too. It IS NOT better.  I also think that cheating is worse there.

It's silly too, to think that someone 'owes you a rematch'.  Some players are playing on phones and smart devices, they can't see the messages as easily.  And, most of these players are only looking for one game.

I give a rematch,if requested, when I win as white.I do that because white has a small opening advantage over black. It is the only circumstance in which I feel obligated to give a rematch if requested. However,as many have stated in this thread,it is a players choice to do so,unless you have agreed upon "X" number of games ahead of time, one doesn't owe an opponent a rematch.

WYTNYT

Always accept a rematch...none of you are professionals, this is for fun, and its just what what dudes do...if you're playing a friendly game of golf and your pard wants a muligan, you grant it to him...same thing here, be cool, grant a rematch...prove youre better and didnt just get lucky...of course its your choice...but if you don't, just like on the golf course if you dont grant a muligan, everyone will think your an ass...and they're right!

iqtedar_uddin

Agreed,we must promote this fun and accepet a rematch .

Kevinum

Anyways, even if they did do that, delete the note and forget all about it. I had somebody who dropped an f-bomb on me because I declined a rematch, so you got off remarkably well... (I have since deleted the note, because I didn't like looking at it Tongue Out)

badger_song

WYTNT...generally speaking,if you won the game, you are the better player ...at least for that game.

Just make your privacy that "only friends can post on your wall" easy.

I think giving someone a rematch so that you each get to play an equal amount of white and black is polite, but after that theres no need. Sometimes people like to do best 2 out of 3, but if you won both games theres no need for that.

PortugueseGuy

Impolite to refuse a rematch request? That is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard! I am not obligated to play with you! I was not obligated to play the first time! I could have resigned the first time! I have a life, you know? I have got things to do.

Honestly, these people make me sick. Fine, you lost. OK, you'd like another chance to win; but, unfortunately, I cannot (or do not want to, for whatever reason which is irrelevant to you) give you that chance.

The next time someone accuses you of being a coward for refusing a rematch request, ignore them; that person has just revealed their stupidity; I assume that, as an intelligent guy, you have no desire of playing with stupid people; maybe even never play with them in your life. You are not forced to play with anyone; you have the right to choose with whom and when you want to play; no-one is allowed to force it unto you.

Teach them a lesson: do not meddle in other people's business, under the risk that people will be irritated and, therefore, unwilling to do you favours, such as playing with you.

tlycan50

no harm in declining a rematch. absolutely not disrespecting them or insulting their strengths. i drive a semi and many times i have refused simply due to work calling.

ThrillerFan

Nobody is under any obligation to accept rematches.  Many times I don't accept one, and it could be for a number of reasons:

1) Opponent plays garbage lines - I don't care to rematch those that play trash, even though I win most of them - they are a complete waste of my time

2) I simply don't have time - Many times I play 1 game and that's it!

3) You were too slow - I often hit the new game button immediately if I am playing another game.

And anybody that goes posting on my profile that I'm a wimp or rating point thief or loser or whatever else they want to say, one thing is clear.  Their mother either drop them on their head one too many times, or their mother was a deadbeat and did an absolutely pathetic job raising them!

You are supposed to consider the offer of a rematch, then make your decision.

However, you may also choose to completely ignore it.

egoole

To all those that always feel they are entitled to a rematch. Why do think this site has the ' vs computer' mode for different levels.

Is just for people like you, i bet you would love it, cos there you can rematch happily ever after. You can even lower the level and obtain your greatest winning streak if thats all what you care.

zembrianator

You're supposed to decline rematch offers in hopes that they will berate you.
