Bad Sportsmanship

Sort:
Deranged

This is a 1 minute bullet game. My opponent takes advantage of the fact that you cannot lose any rating points until move 4, so as a result, makes a ridiculous bishop sacrifice on move 3 in an attempt to win the opponents queen. This player has done this several times before and I think it should come under the "abuse category".

What do you think? Is this fair play by black? Is it bad sportsmanship?
rooperi

He's an idiot.

Maybe they should change the rules so that you cannot abort if there is a meterial imbalance. I think it's worse than bad sportsmanship. it's cheating.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

I don't think it's abort, I think it's resigning, but it is still not a rated game.

Don't worry, this will all be fixed in the near future...

I just went through and looked at his recent games Nadav_a and it looks like he seems to do that a lot of the time 35 of his last 50 games have ended in 3 moves or less where he LOST.  Seems to me like this guys is a POS!

Dragec

I've seen this happening before. Certain players are premoving in the opening hoping that you do the same.

They try the cheap Bg4 hoping that you premoved something else and they will grab your queen. Sometimes I also see Bh3,Bxg2,Bxh1 series.

If it works, they continue with the game, if not, they resign.

All this nonsense tries and behaviour, is a clear consequence of the fact that you can play a couple move game without rating change.

It chess.com changes its policy, this would probably end.

HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!  I hadn't thought of the pre-moves, but that seems like what he is trying to do, REALLY CHEAP and not playing the game the way it is supposed to be played.  After you make your first move the game should count, absolutely ridiculous that people can pull this kind of BS.

see...is what we have been trying to tell you, you guys, one minute bullet chess is 'sillly' with premoves, this is not real chess.Tongue out.....Laughing

stabmasterarson

I also get people aborting when they have to play as black, as it's random selection, they prob keep aborting till they get the white side, which sucks too..

Agreed, there are no pre-moves in OTB Chess.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

Can you imagine what a complete waste of time it is, to keep playing the same trappy ...d6 and ...Bg4 moves, in hopes of getting lucky? Can you imagine further the embarrassment of losing even after being up a queen?

It just strikes me that some people will really spend their time this way. It's like the old puzzle: if you had an infinite supply of 1$ checks, how many of them would you cash? You have to sign them legibly, and you have to deposit them in the bank. And you have to fill out the deposit slip. People who play ...d6 and ...Bg4 would deposit their 1$ checks until, well, until, hmm I don't think they would ever stop.

MrDurdan

HAHAHAHA 1 dollar checks LOL

Maybe you should be able to set up the "abort" move limit for rating losses in the "New Game" prompt itself. Set it to "2", let him join and perform his idiocy, and imagine the look in his face once he realizes he just lost 50 rating points for being an idiot.

Or just lower the limit to 2. Is there a particular reason it's at 4?

(Also you could just stop playing bullet altogether. It's not real chess, you know. ;) )

I agree with most of the points however bullet Chess is Chess.  It is a different way of playing (with basically no time lol) however it is a way of playing but I agree it should be 2 moves each and your rating points are up for grab.

donglan

yah, i encountered like this move many times.

I fully agree. This is not bad sportsmanship; this is just trying to get the most out of the fact that you have 3-4 moves before the rating changes. It's just a trick, and he tries to cheat the opponent. Otherwise he quits and nothing happens. To me this is clearly a case of cheating.

goldendog

I think erik said this was coming.

RollinPapers

haha, nadav and his plethora of accounts are very prone to using this maneuver indeed.

dillydream

I can see that the Bishop move was stupid, but can someone explain to me why it was bad sportsmanship?  I'm a beginner, and I guess I don't know what a "pre-move" is.
