Was this a Bullet game? You could've easily forced a draw, wouldn't it have been for a blunder or two. No reason to become discouraged, it's not that you suck but you should train your mental stamina while you're at it.

5/0 blitz is better than bullet, but it's still not long enough to think.  Fast time controls are either for very experienced players who have the knowledge of thousands of patterns to draw from or people who don't really care much about improving and are just playing for fun.  You obviously DO care about improving so stop playing fast time controls!

Why would you give up chess ... you will lose a lot of games and some people quit after they don't feel real progress for a while. This seperates them from a winner, who will always stand up, keep on training, learn from his mistakes and finally become better.

As for the game: you gained a nice positional target: an isolated c-pawn on the open file. After a while you also found the right plan: you doubled rooks to attack it. All you had to do was to continue this plan. Here you could have done this with the move pawn c6 in a couple of occasions (dxc6 doesn't work because of the pin, white will lose a rook). So after you analyze that, next time there will be a fight over such a pawn with heavy pieces involved, you'll find such pawn-moves that exploit the pin. But you need to learn from that mistake, not just be frustrated and play another blitz-game.

AMEN. I can quit or I can keep trying. Both are great options ;)

Hey you are being way too hard on yourself, your play was good, logical and you spooted his weakness and went for it !

I know its disappointing when you lose a game , especially when you know you actually played well for most of it, really frustrating.

But Ithink in this game your general play was good, purposeful and only let down by some minor miscalculation.

It stings when this happens but beleive me I, was impressed with the majority of your play, if you give up that would be a great pity.

If you were useless Iwould , gently, say maybe you should give up, but that aint the case !!

If you want to see a real howler, look at my move 40 R-A7 in my game against trevmun, how to turn a couple of weeks hard work into a loss in one daft move !

It just stings more I think when you have put a lot of effort in played good but still lose, I think I prefer being blitzed off the board.

Maybe my move will give you a laugh, I bet you wouldnt have played it !

Oli

You made me laugh, I appreciate that. Thank you!

Here is an opinion from an unrated casual chess player - me.

Whether the game is won or lost is secondary to the developement of your mind. Chess improves your way of thinking, visualization, and how fast you think, even when you lose.

Frustration, intimidation, etc., hinders the developement these things.

Don't quit.

how did you post the actual game on here?

Remember, its a game. Play online games, they give you time to analyze your moves. Blitz and bullet my not be the best way to progress. If you play blitz and bullet games analyze when the game is over and find your mistakes.

Instead of giving up chess, learn from your mistakes instead.  After 1.d4 d5 2.c4, 2...Nf6 is an error.  You should solidify your strongpoint on d5 via 2...e6 or 2...c6, or else take on c4, realizing that you won't be holding on to the pawn.  The idea is that you are looking to get more space to manouver your pieces around at the cost of giving up a central pawn for a c-pawn.

Well to me that is half your problem right there. Like Yoda says no try only do. That to me shows that you are skeptical of getting better. Like allot are saying here you did well in this game.

I mean not everything was perfect but then again nobody here is perfect the ones that think they are there just kidding themselves. I myself do not play here I might later on but play at other places.

Most here do stick to fast time controls so it may be hard to find games but what a few have said about staying away from the faster time controls for now was advice which is mainly why I never play here.

Many here when on the longer time controls do cheat and though it is not fair for the ones that do not there only cheating themselves in the end along with learning nothing.

These are the types of people that I smash in OTB play yet I am not saying that I am the best player either even I lose games but you can really tell allot when they cannot pull out the computer to find there next best move.

If you still feel bad after all of this read this all over I mean even Carlsen loses and draws games. A couple kids ended up getting some lucky breaks on him one being a girl that was only ten: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-players/carlsen-in-chennai-with-2000-screaming-girls

Losing hurts; whether it be basketball, marbles or chess.

But do not forget why you started playing this game in the first place. I will wager because it was fun and something that was enoyable to you. Get back to that feeling that you had when you first began....if you can...if so, everything will turn out for the better.

You are indeed a competitor. Any true competitor hates to lose.

You have written a good post

Even I am thinking of quitting chess.

I just keep getting bounced around like a play thing and it just makes me suffer every time I play chess. I am sure I will be quitting soon
