The only ones that can answer this, is a GM.

I saw something interesting on Discovery channel this week, a man that did math calculation's with another part of his brain (not the usual math area in the brain), so he did it instantly, faster than anny calculator. I wonder how he would be at calculating chess moves...

I was a GM once! Then I woke up and had my cornflakes. LOL Laughing

Chess is like any other sports. Study, study, study. And still, someone are just better than others. It has nothing to do with intelligence. Intelligence is told by many different factors, and being intelligent don't mean that you're amazing in chess. At same time, being average can still make a Grandmaster.

Why do we ask question's like this and expect to find an answer, I don't see anny GM's posting here...

Natalia_Pogonina

Chess is a very complicated game. We don't know for sure why it is so, but the truth is that it takes many years to reach GM level. Just like with, let's say, a PhD. One doesn't expect to jump from learning how to read and write to becoming a Dr in a few months, right?

An average grandmaster has LOTS of knowledge & skills. Photographic memory alone won't do it (although it is helpful). Neither it is a must-have.

Thanks for commenting!

How long time did it take you to reach GM rating?

WGM

Perhaps the GMs want to have a long, hard laugh from reading our posts before stepping in to un-miseducate us lesser mortals...hmm...

Natalia has about 2500 FIDE rating.

Are you implying she is less of a GM because she is a woman?

A WGM doesn't necessarily have the strength / rating of a GM, but in this case I think Natalia does.

I don't think he was implying anything, rather stating the fact that she isn't a GM at all because she doesn't have the GM title. She does have the WGM title -- which is nothing to sneeze at either!

Natalia is rated 2472 at the moment, and was rated above 2500. I am not sure why she doesn't get the GM title.

There is the small matter of getting 3 GM norms, as well as the rating requirement ...

Rating is insufficient for the GM title, "norms" are also required. When Ms. Pogonina scores the required norms she will be awarded the title, not before and not because various Chess.com members think she is clever and attractive enough.

An asian woman holding a lobster. Is that the sum total of your "thoughts"?

p.s. You've posted that picture at least three times in the last few months... must do better.

WGM is not GM, IM is not GM and WIM is not IM, and if someone think so 2000+ internet rating doesent make you fidemaster!
