The whole +600 thing was made up by VladimirHerceg91. It is not grounded in reality. No offense.

I broke 2000 for rapid on chess.com, but I doubt my current skill is 2600.

Yes, self proclaimed intellectuals often post BS, the +600 nonsense was nothing more than an average player trying to justify his own low rating to gain credibility.

Just wondering, what is the difference between OTB and standard rating.

LogoCzar

For a comparison of someone who is roughly 1400 USCF

https://www.chess.com/members/view/FutureGM2001forlife

His rapid rating is about 1462.

I've played a simul (5 game) against opponents averaging between 1800 and 1850 (chess.com rapid) recently. I scored 3/5.

Would you like to play a game? I could try to estimate your skill from it.

I was trying to play chess.com in class without getting caught by the teacher.  Looking at my games from yesterday isn't the best way to see how good I play.

Pay attention in school or you won't be able to do grammar good either

It depends. I think most over the board tournaments are much slower than chess.com rapid. Also online can be effected by a lot of factors (noise, connection etc). If you play a lot - and at your best (no noise, focus etc) every game it should be relatively accurate in my opinion except at the lowest (<1000) and highest (>1800) levels.

Honestly? I don't know.

Hi there, you are 13, you are trying to take it seriously. Let me give some words of advice. I assume that by Master you mean 2200 ELO and not international Master. At the moment my OTB ELO is 2270. It all depends on you. Hang out with strong players, see what they do and try to emulate them. Study chess classics, pick two masters of the beginning of the 20th century and go through all he games. Try to understand their plans with their annotations. 1 game, 2 games a day maximum or you will not remember anything. Your rating will always be a roller coster, let it fall, let it rise. If you put some work on it you will reach 2000 in less than 2 years and 2200 in four. Good luck!

Yes please but I am really unstable.

David Farsen gave some excellent advice we all could learn from, thank you.

Study a lot tactics from books and use five from tactic trainer daily, buy Silman endgame book and through it and buy ( Dad will buy it) Logical Move by Move by Chernev, this should put you at 1500 uscf and 1700uscf. It take a lot work, tactics must come first in your study. It took me three years to get to expert level, master level you must be competent in tactics and endgame, this is why most players is below master level.

It's too early to know if you can be a NM, because you started playing recently and your playing strenght is about 900 elo. You must be honest with yourself: you must know your level of play and study depending on that. Only 2% of the people who take chess seriously make master. It won't be a walk in the park for sure. Follow the advice of stronger players, work constantly and you'll improve much, who knows, maybe even to master.

Hey, it's better than thinking your actual rating is your online rating plus 600 points. 👍🏻
I have no idea how that rumor came to be, which is why I am inclined to believe 2IQ and V just merely made that stuff up.
If you don't have a good blitz score than you are probably what I call a slow thinker. Not that a slow thinker is dumb, they just take a long time to make their moves. Probably due to bad thinking algorithms, like I've seen slow thinkers waste most of their time in one move on a speed game when all he had to do was trade off pieces. This is a common bad thinking algorithm, taking too long when it is a simple move, just take the piece. I speed chess, there is no time for retrospect, usually... slow thinkers need to play a lot of slow chess, 90 minute games with an increment. Try to also include some fast games in there to for opening training. 10 minute games.

Come back to reality Timmy, come on, too much dreaming is bad for you.

When you decide to get into an actual conversation rather than troll let me know and I'll bite.

What "rumour" are you referring to? Please see this thread where Online to OTB conversion is discussed masterfully if you require any information on the subject.

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/chess-com-rating-conversion-to-otb

You didn't specify where you heard these "rumors" as we are calling them.  Which leads me to believe you just made up these rumors yourself.  You and 2IQ, to do whatever it is trolls do with misinformation.  Of course, this is just a theory of mine.  You do not have to get yourself all worked up over nothing.  You really shouldn't care what I think of you and 2IQ.  I see Logozar confirming my suspicions though, but you keep acting oblivious, that is your role is it not, to act oblivious when you are confronted with reality V?  I would prefer it that we just drop talking about this V, since you are not going to admit to anything.   I had my fair share of dealing with liars.  Don't get me wrong V, I do like you and 2IQ, it's just that, it's hard to tell sometimes if you guys are trolling or just asking innocent questions...

Jenium

So why exactly do you want to become a master?

They are trolling.

Urk, he's only 13.  Can't you be nicer to a young teenager and not make fun of his admirable aspirations?  I am assuming that you are over the age of 21.  If I am mistaken please let me know.

What will you bite? Your statement about people that are not good at blitz or otherwise "slow" players makes no sense. Do you really want to be proven wrong in front of the audience?

Go to sleep Billy.

You could go from a rating of 500 to 1000 in a month, while going from 2000 to 2500 could take two years.
