Why are there three different ratings in Live Chess?

Live Chess has three different ratings based on different time controls:

Bullet rating - For games under 3 minutes.

Blitz rating - For games of 3 minutes to 14 minutes.

Rapid rating - For games 15 minutes and longer.

Note that the per-move bonus time IS significant here - not just the base minutes.  The system assumes an average game-length of 40 moves to estimate the total length of time available to each player; the result is what determines which rating is affected by a given time control:

A time control of 2 | 12 therefore results in a Blitz (not Bullet) game like so:

2 minutes + (12 seconds x 40 moves = 480 seconds) = 10 minutes

(Exactly the same logic determines where a game appears on the time-line of the Seek graph.)

As a reference, here are the basic pre-sets available in Live:

Time Control  Estimated Length  Game/rating type
5 | 0 5 minutes Blitz
10 | 0 10 minutes Blitz
2 | 12 10 minutes Blitz
3 | 0 3 minutes Blitz
4 | 4 6.5 minutes Blitz
15 | 10 22 minutes Rapid
1 | 5 4.5 minutes Blitz
1 | 0 1 minute Bullet

I find it interesting that 10|0 is blitz here but when I play it in USCF it’s consider quick. I think Chess.com should add a new category because 10|0 and 3|2 are very different player pools that are grouped into the same category.

That just changed yesterday. 10|0 is now rapid.

I asked this question on another place. Nobody answered, so im putting it here. Please can you tell me why i am not getting notification ( a sign) when i get a trophy from the friends or chess.com? It doesn’t look polite to not thank the friends. I just don’t react, because i have no idea!
