Hello... I am new to chess, and was wandering if white can capture the black knight in this poistion, as the rook is pinned against the king.

Nope, you can never move into check, whether the checking piece is pinned or not.

You can take the bishop with check, and after Kd7 (defending the knight), Rd5 will win.

I don't think he was trying to win, but understand the rules.
