Learn 4 openings. Two white, two black.

What does that mean? Two opening repertoires? You need around 8 openings for white, unless you're playing something like the London or KIA.

London sucks btw, although I play it in bullet occassionally and score well.

I believe he meant two different moves in nearly each line.

Since the OP is sitting a around 1000,I assume he doesn't know any openings. He'll need at least a favorite opening for white and a filler opening system like KIA. For black he'll need a reply to e4 and a system for everything else.

All he needs to do is get to an equal middle game.

It is possible if you are the next Capablanca or you have the talent of Kasparov or Fischer, everyone learns at a different rate, some guys take years only to archive 1500, some others decades to archive 1800, some others cant reach 2000 in their entire lives, some others can be GM when they are only kids, like Karjakin (12 years old) or Carlsen (13 years old), some can beat the national champion when they are kids like Capablanca, to those its like they could learn in a month what most of they guys will take years to learn, if you are like those, sure, you can, if not then no, its Impossible

t1ooooo

This is impossible really.

So so I went from 900 to 1500 in 18months in bullet. My rapid rating started at 1450 but I don’t play it. My fide rating is 1526.

Ive seen kids go from 700 to 1850 in chess.com but basically all they do is watch chess as no job.

If if you can reach 2000 otb or on chess.com in 3 years you are in the top .1% and are surer smart.

Im pretty dumb. If I could reach 2000 In Another 36 months I’d be super happy.

Thats a good goal for me.

Well yeah considering this was 5 months ago I’d say it’s pretty hopeless. Unless of course you summon Satan and gain Buffchix mode.
superchessmachine

I started to play chess two year ago after a break of 25 years, I have also 3 kids and my rating was around 1000. I only play classic chess in a local club and play some weekend tournaments, I have played a few games on chess.com, instead I am making Tactic puzzles, see videos and read articles and analyze all my games with Stockfish.

After two whole season and 80 games I have a national rating of 1457 and a ELO rating of 1526.

A year ago I had only a rating of 1165, so something have happend the last year:-)

Nope, I started from zero, I was really a novice in my rookie season, I began to learn new opening both with white, and black, and in the first 24 games, most of these games was with a time control of 90 minutes + 30 second extra per move for each player, I didn't win much, and in the last club tournament I lost all my 5 games in my group and my rating drop to 1165. But after that things began to change, I have learned a lot from all my mistakes and blunders:-)  I played two more tournaments and closed the  season with a second place with 3.5 point in 5 games and ended with a rating of 1332 after total of 34 games. My 2. season I played in 8 tournaments and played a total of 46 games, I foundd out that I like to play weekend tournament,  where the time control was 90 minutes for the first 40 moves and 30 minutes for rest of the games + 30 second extra for each move  from move one.for each player. and managed to win a couple of tournament, but I also began to meet stronger opponents rated 1600-1800, so this is going to next challenge in my 3. season.

Great, I went from 1450 to 1565 since this thread started (OTB rating). good practice and long time control games really help!

Not impossible to improve with kids, wife and a job happy.png

Maybe he should’ve aimed to hit 1000 first instead of setting his sights on 2200 lol

This is joke, right? If you dedicate all your time to improve your game I think you should be happy to get 1500 or 1600. If you go on training seriously you can perhaps get 1800 after 4 or 5 years. 2200 is probably not realistic before 10 years, if you are talented.

I think that you could easily get 1800 otb with carefull, precise study with a coach. In one year. Master will take much, much more time.
