1. Play chess.
2. See what you did wrong.
3. Don't do it again.
4. Repeat 1-3 until GM.
Tactics, long games and analyzing every games you played would work well. Play online chess so you can think a lot on each move. If you can, join the local chess club.
Thanks Ive been playing against computers for years actually, but it seems the only way to win is to turn the speed up or the difficulty down. I actually played my first game against a real "person" online on this site. Its almost embarrasing. Thanks for your assistance.
I looked at your game, and you broke almost all of the principles of the opening.
Make as few pawn moves as possible (enough to control the centre and allow development of your pieces).
Castle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castling (moving your king up as you did is normally terrible) and avoid moving the pawns in front of your king if you can.
Get your pieces out!
As you are, you'll never get a half decent position to play from.
Didn't notice that you had no choice but to move your king...but that's what can happen if you advance too many pawns.

Same here. I think joining the forum is a good move (pun intended).
Good morning all, I am fairly new to chess and I would like to improve my game. Any suggestions, I am a fairly slow learner but once I've got something down Im good to go. Who wants to help me with my game?
Humbly,
