Being Banned Threats

I was playing a five minute game and my opponent dropped a Bishop a minute into the game then just sat there and didn't move. With about 20 seconds left I asked him why he was being a sore ass loser and a banning threat came up. Is there a place to see what is acceptable or not? I don't think asking someone why they are being a sore ass loser is over the top.

Thanks ilikeflags. I guess I was just venting. I won't use it anymore. I've been playing here for years but never seen such a warning. Tells you how much I curse. I never thought I'd be censored over the word a-- though.

You might say that the filter is a little anal retentive.

 hahahaha.....Nice!

wouldn't that be anal expulsive? -- an equally charming proclivity

I said oh shitake mushrooms and got a ban warning

what if your swearing but playing against a good friend? I do this occasionally and have never had a warning. Does the filter take into account the fact that you are talking to a friend (who wouldn't be offended)?

I have said the elusive F word when playing a friend and didn't get any warning for it Undecided it was an absolute accident mind because I had just hung my queen

Elusive?  It's always handy when I need it.

I was playing live chess though. A 5 min game. Maybe that's the difference.

Go start a game then say sore ass loser to the other guy and see if it works. Let me know. Thanks. hehe

I have never said ass in live chess but I did get booted for xxx yet saying the F word not even a warning?

first of all the word is 'censor' - and it is NOT to make the place more user-friendly - it about bloody prefects with megalomania issues tryin' to tell others what to do, or in this case what language is acceptable in their own eyes. I never yet met a 7 yr old kid that wasn't perfectly familiar with the whole gamut of anglo-saxon expletives; that they choose to use them only amongst their peers is more a reflection on the prissy attitude of certain supposed adults Smile

I wonder about the quality of the adults that such 7 year olds are raised around ? I find a vulgar mouth a huge turn off myself and avoid such people. I never used vulgar language in front of my own parents even after I was myself an adult, to show respect and the fact that I dont generally use vulgar language anyway. My sons are now 25 years old and they also dont use vulgar language around me, they werent raised this way. If they use such language among their peers I dont know, maybe they do. Most people adjust their language, and subjects, depending on who the audience is  . Do you use vulgar language in front of your mother, or preacher the same as you would/do your drinking buddies ?

I've never experienced this thing but I did once get a warning and deletion for writing the word "succubus"...but they never deleted it again so maybe they found out it's not a curse word?

Fair point, Reb, no I don't, but that rather down to conditioning don't you think ? I must say that I was unaware of most of the anglo-saxon vernacular until I first attended a rather expensive and exclusive private school at age 7, but everybody there , and I might add especially those of aristocratic background, were extremely familiar and well-versed in the use of what would be described as 'vulgar' Smile

I think you make a really good point Reb, and one that I'm having some trouble with.  I teach in a high school as my day job, and one of the problems that I've run into is a near majority of students are unable to navigate the difference between discussing some frank subject matter and making inappropriate jokes or comments during class.  This is way of the OP's original topic, but I'm curious as to whether we learn to change our vocabulary usage according to social situations at a later age (which I kind of doubt) or whether this is indeed something that we learn from our parents (no fart jokes at the dinner table, etc.)
