I don't want to be a party pooper, but the engine kind of refutes the Benko. It is rarely played at top level, but it is definitely playable at 2300 level and below. Don't forget the Nimzo

didnt a lot of the super grandmasters a few decades ago, Kasparov, Karpov etc use the Benko? or did the engines just render it useless since then?

As black, I play the Dutch to d4. However, as a d4 player, I struggle most against the Grunfeld.

Okay so 1.d4, 1...f5, 2.Bg4 what do you do?

That's tricky. Black needs to learn how to handle it and I tried it for a while but 2. Bg5 doesn't seem all that good when black knows what he's doing. So I play 1. d4 ... f5 2. e4 and get good results.

I meant Bg5.

I gett the best results with it against the dutch about a 80% win rate

Wow that's good. Do they chase the B all the way with pawns and get mated? I probably get about 66% win rate with 2. e4.

Well that happens but the main point of Bg5 in my opinion is to over extend the kingside pawns and go for rapid development by striking the center

I just play the Dutch by transposition so 1 d4 e6 2 c4 f5. Just have to play the french if they play 2 e4

Absolutely nobody over-extended when I trialled it although I was only playing at roughly the 1900 level at the time one guy had all the latest theory and gave me a difficult game. I dropped it. Oh, there was a girl player, local, who was about 2200, and she combined it with 3. Nd2. Not even Nc3 but Nd2! She did get some wins against strong players too. But I decided not for me. 2. e4 is similar in that it invites black to overextend, but it's simpler and easier or so I reckoned. If they do g6, you go h4 h5 and sac the exchange for a good game.

If you don't mind could you share how your average game against bg5 would go?

Grünfeld is the best: played 5 times at Yekaterinburg Candidates 2020-2021 and 5 draws.
Nimzo-Indian, King's Indian, Queen's Gambit Declined each were played once only and white won. These were top players of comparable strength and backed up by teams of both grandmasters and engines.
