I'm guessing black's previous move was ...Qd1. So did white miss it or got lost in his calculations and forgot to play Bxe6 first?

Sources seem to indicate that the decisive mistake was a move or two before that, when he allowed ...Qd1 to be strong. Indeed, Anand is an aging player.
