It's always interesting to read nearly dead languages, now I've learned "together" must be related with "to gather"!
bridal is a composite of two words, bride and ale whereupon it used to be the practice, now sadly discontinue, where the Bride in a wedding would make fine ale for all the guests!
How it works when the groom comes from another clan? I had to experience something more or less like that...

It depends how opposed or militant the clans are. My grandfather had to leave Ireland because of the enmity between the clans when he fell in love with a girl from the opposite side. How militant is your in laws?
He, he, no clans there. Actually, in the deep Galicia if you get a girlfriend from a different parish you only need to invite all the men who haven't married yet, to compensate for the missed chance (a custom which is sadly disappearing). Coming from Castile you can bet I did! So you are from an Irish clan?

hmmm how interesting. Here people are kind of free to date anyone they like, there are only two clans now, Catholics and Protestants but they don't care as religion has no real effect or even relevance to their lives, This was not the case in my fathers generation where he had to get a dispensation to marry a protestant and his family boycotted the wedding because they were big time Catholics which he naturally resented. My mother is a MacGregor a central Highlands clan and my father a Gordon which is a North East clan. Half my town claims Irish decent though because they came here in droves way back. It still sounds quite parochial in Spain and very family orientated whereas here that's kind of lost.
My son has said a couple of times his English teacher comes from England. I told him I doubt it since she's a redhead named Dolores and she wears a medal of Virgin Mary. His answer was more or less like "what the heck are you talking about, dad?!"

i could go on, but the best of cc is what we all think it is. hell, some like macer and kaynight.
i feel poorly for the site i once knew. there is no denying that changes have affected some where they might not want to log in, and, i'm one of them. i used to anticipate coming to cc to see what others have written. in the past few years, i come to the site and, if i have no games where it's my move, i move on.
the social aspect of this site seems to have become drivel that kids eat up.
I miss a bunch of those folks, and then some. But we struggle on from day to day with who we have to work with.

this is an excellent point that i hope others will get.
while we choose our own way, even here on cc, in the end, it comes to what we are willing to deal with.

Hahaha.....The only things that sprawl in Glasgow, are the citizens face down in the gutter. No offence.
aw naw, I've seen those Edinburgh students first hand with their green tea cozy hats and pink pyjama trousers in broad daylight, they need a good slap on the back of the heid..
