The gap between what class players and masters perceive to be a best game ever is quite high.  Many amateurs joined chess because we were attracted by combinations and flashy things, but we stayed for crystal clear endgames and developed a fine appreciation for good positional play.  A novice will look at a strategic masterpiece by Kramnik or Karpov and say, "This is boring" whereas a master would gush over such marvelous technique!  

Endgames are to putting as tactics and combinations are to driving: the general public may enjoy watching a long and accurate drive, but professionals appreciate the subtle muscle movements, fine motor skills, and dexterity required for good putting.
