I often listen to Evanescence, I dunno, I listen to it all the time, so it may not be only chess...
Best music to listen to when playing chess.

Some pretty good choices here, but for chess, it's gotta be Coldplay or E.L.O. I love Snow Patrol, but not when I play chess.

For blitz: Pearl's Girl by Underworld or Cowgirl by Rick Smith
For slow time controls: The theme from The Hunt for Red October and the old Soviet National Anthem. Also, if the game is past sunset, The Joker by Josh Abrahams.
When I was in high school, for some odd reason when I was winning a game, the Thundercats song would pop in my head.

If you feel like you're in an attacking mood, then I'd say AC/DC.
I recommend "Mouth for the War" by Pantera for agressive moods

Classical or jazz for me; anything instramental. If the song has lyrics I start singing the song in my head and lose track of my calculations.

If it's late in the evening,I listen to 2 songs of the same band (I'll let u guess which one),depending on my side :
-The White Queen (as it began)
-The March of the Black Queen .
Usually I listen to old school Goa trance ,Bach organ pieces ,Rammstein concerts ,or Count Basie orchestra :p

Last night I got a wild hair and created a chess playlist: 1) TNT (ACDC); 2) Brave Foot Soldiers (Wolfstone); 3) King (Weezer); 4) Set Fire to the Rain (ADELE); 5) Killer Queen (Queen); 6) I Gotta Feeling (Black Eyed Peas); 7) Knights of the Round (A Skylit Drive); 8) Don't Fear the Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult); 9) Bishops Robes (Radiohead); 10) Desperado (Eagles); 11) The Winner Takes it All (ABBA); 12) Sweet Sacrifice (Evanescence); 13) Stalemate (Joss Stone); 14) Poker Face (Lady GaGa); 15) Checkmate (Apathy).
If you're listening to music during a chess game, you're not a chess player.
I would laugh if you lost a game to a person bee bopping along(with a deviced that was verified to not contain any way of them hearing how to beat you) and smoked you. Of course you'll probably just turn your nose up some more, proving it will never happen because, you wouldn't play them. For, you feel it is an insult to and feel you need to defend the game from how, it insults the game. The last time I asked the game if this was cool, it said.....let's play are you affraid to lose?
