Have you ever checked out the study plans? If you haven't then roll your mouse pointer to "learn" in the top green ribbon bar; it's the last item. They recommend of course that you learn opening principles first and foremost, but also list 7 common openings that you should learn the first 5 moves of.
Best opening patterns to learn as a beginner

I realized quickly that there are around 5 or so main opening / opening tricks being used by people. I'm starting to rekognize certain patterns and figured out how to counter them.
My question is, what are the most used openings for black and white to learn for a beginner to use and to counter if needed.
I agree that a beginner shouldn's focus to much on openings but at the same time it could be veyr helpful to rekognize them and act correctly on them.
