try the four pawn attack... it is agressive and overextends your pawn lines a bit but it gives you a lot of space.
Best way to counter Alekhine Defense?

1.e4 Nf6, Black invites White's pawn attack. The idea is that advanced pawns become weak because it can be attacked (and cannot retreat).
2.e5 Nd5, it is okay to attack with e5
3.c4 Nb6, it is still okay to advance c4, but it is imo better not to attack further with c5 on the next move because then the pawn become weak.
4.d4 so you have 3 pawns already advanced: c4, d4 and e5. Your e5 pawn is inside opponents' area so is difficult to defend, and you don't have to defend it. If Black offers you to exchange the e5 pawn (e.g. with ...d6) just accept.
The idea of the defense is to attack the advanced pawn. This is not a solid concept and is imo not a good defense. Especially in lower level such as in your level, space advantage is more important, that's why you should be okay playing against the defense.
Hi all,
So this is how the game went down. End result: I (playing white) was effectively beaten hollow. I gave up after 23. Bc1 g5 because both of the black rooks had the central files and I simply had nowhere to go.

Small centre and encourage black to make a pig's ear of ... Bg4
In this case black was playing a piece down due to the boxed in king's rook and thus it is just a matter of time before something snaps.
This is a good and simple way to play against Alekhine's Defence.

Hi everyone,
I am new to Chess.com. I downloaded the Chess for iPhone app. I have been playing it with the computer set as Black, Active style, strength level 1.
I can't figure out how to counter the Alekhine defense? Because in response to 1. e4 that is what the computer always plays.
Please let me know.
Thanks,
-'Mage
