Best way to get back into chess?

What’s the best way to, in a sense "be good at chess again" after not playing for a while? I’m looking at playing chess over break like I used to over the summer and I haven’t touched a chess board for 4-5 months. So I’d rather not get smashed and lose intrest so any tips? I’m sure it’s going to take time and effort but do you think I could get back to where I was before I quit In only 1-2 weeks?

Just start playing. You will feel a bit rusty and lose some rating but you will be back to where you left after sometime

Of course, you still have everything there after a long break, you just have to "activate" it. What I mean by this is you need to mostly just play a lot of games, mostly rapid if you can, and then do lots and lots of puzzles. And while you play your games make sure to ask yourself questions. I hope this comment is helpful, GL!

Yup, chess skills don't just go away. I took a break for 2 years and I actually came back much stronger than before. Just don't stream your first games back, unless of course you want to be laughed at by your viewers

True

Thisguy120

You could start it slow, warm yourself up with unrated rapid or blitz or anything.

Once you learn something, you won't be able to unlearn it. You probably just need some refresher to get back into the game.

In my opinion, you should prepare some training plan and stick to it about 2-3 weeks. The plan should involve books, puzzles, reapet the openings and of course skirmishes in online chess. After 2 weeks your chess will back to appropriate level. If you will be more patient then you even improve. Playing only bullets and blitz online is pointless. You will feel the lack of development and your chess level can even decrease.

Good luck on your chess way!!

If anything, you might approach it a completely different way, which will eventually improve your overall play.

Yo happy you're back!
Idk I personally stopped playing for about 2 weeks and practice got me back although I still kinda struggle with high time controls. As you know I play mostly blitz online.

Fame is relative, and people operate in many different circles.

Usually higher number of points means you interact more, thus meeting more people who know you.

May be take the opportunity to start fresh and strip any poor habits?

A written plan sounds like a great idea as previously mentioned.

Warm-up tactics, then play a game. It’s what I do. I lose a couple, but get back into it.

If I am low on confidence or if I have been playing below my best form, then I play a game against one of the bots. It gives me some idea of what my current form is, and if I play well and win that gives me the confidence to beat some humans.

Big_Mac01

Start with with a few unrated games and as soon as you feel that ur ready to start playing rated give it a shot

Chessking4640

Here's what I did -

1. Play a bunch of unrated rapid games to get back into the spirit.

2. Play irl without timer with people better than you.

3. Play a bunch of blitz games.

4 when u feel you r ready then play some blitz games ( rated ) and when u get to thinking again then play rated rapid games.

I hope it helps =)
