Better Playing as White than Black.

OK, so upon playing and learning from different game sessions, I realized that I'm better playing as White than Black. Maybe it has something to do with that theory where White mostly wins because he goes first.

When I play as Black, I mostly try to do aggressive premature plays, only for them to fall short while White obliterates my position. I can't seem to grasp the concept of how Black SHOULD play. Or am I being delusional?

At the beginning of the game both sides are equal that is neither side has an advantage. White may appear to have an advantage because he or she gets to move first. How are you playing as the black pieces? The point of playing black is not to go on the defensive well not entirely. Otherwise you will just be defending against threats without serious ones of your own. Beginners under 1200 should not need to learn openings in my opinion. Just openings concepts.

It is perfectly fine to respond to e4 with e5 and d4 with d5.

I have looked at your 15/10 game against a higher rated player. You should not have resigned so early in the game. Not knowing what to do is not a reason to resign.

Below is a great video by IM Daniel Rensch on playing the French Defense

Hope this helps!

What lines are you playing with the white pieces may I ask?

As White I just LOOOOOOOOOVVVEEEEE The Reti Opening. Such versatility is aaaaammaaazzzing~! And if I play the same opponent when I occasionally accept rematches, I go with King's Indian or Queen's Gambit.

Oh man Oh Man.

I like the Kings Indian as well.

I got a line you can try out.

Since you like the Reti Opening you might fall in love with the lines I give you.

As black if your opponent plays 1.e4 you can try the Pirc Defense

which is 1...d6 than Nf6 than g6 usually.

Here are some games which I have played using those lines. Maybe you can give them a look and see how you like them.

As black if your opponent plays 1.d4 you can try the Kings Indian Defense.

I also play the Kings Indian Attack as white.

Sometimes I play it with 1.e4 than tranpose other times I try the 1.Nf3 way. Just depends on how I am feeling I'll give you the link to that as well.

You, sir, are amazing~ Also I read some of your other posts, and I have to give you credit since I've been slowly but surely improving.

When playing Black your only goal initially is to gain equality as soon as you're able. Now, someone above said both sides are equal at the start. Not true. White is up simply because he has the 1st move. Now, he may choose to do something ludicrous (like a3, a4, h3, h4, Na3, or Nh3) which should enable you as Black to gain equality (if not superiority) immediately. Pretty unlikely you'll ever get to face such a poor opening though. Also, attacks that are easily thwarted shouldn't really be classified as genuine attacks anyway.
