A debate en masse or en Anglais a mass debate but not really answering the crux of the issue why are all American obese?

A recent survey in Time Magazine provides a key insight.  In response to the question: "Which characteristics do you most admire in the humans?" Americans most popular responses were, in order:

1  Greed

2  Laziness

3  Fat ears

This could provide a clue to the answer that we all seem to be searching for.

So to summarize, you have no formal training whatsoever?  You picked a diet and it worked for you, and that made you an expert who can sarcastically dismiss any nutritionists and researchers, who devote their entire careers to their studies, that don't parrot your own beliefs?  I believe the term you used for all of them who don't agree with you was "pathetic".

You'll respond with your usual attacks and assumptions, although if you look back through my comments you'll see that I haven't even advocated one side or another of the carbohydrate (or CARBONHYDRATE as you called it) issue.  What I object to is some blowhard with a keyboard who thinks he has been granted insight into how the universe works, and who dismisses all other opinions and experiences and evidence as outright wrong or faked.  My training is in the physical sciences, not the life sciences, but your type exists in any field.  A little (very little, in this instance) information can do a lot of damage in the hands of people who don't really know the big picture.

I thought Welshmen were supposed to hate Englishmen?

Even the OP doesn't understand what indigenous Americans means?  American Indians, man.

LordJones3rd

they do hate englishmen, but what's to say they can't hate Americans too.

In a recent poll,

62% of Welshmen think Americans are very hateable

31% hate Englishmen more.

128% were useless at maths.

O Boyo! Wales, a land where men are men and sheep are worried.

I've spent some time in Swansea, and I never once got the impression that the folks who lived there hated me because of the country from which I hale.  I definitely did get the impression though that the locals were not overly fond of the English.

I think a lot of that is a the quite common difference between a general stereotype and the reality of individuals.  I mean, I can utter as loudly as anyone else that I'm not fond of people from Ohio State, but, to my shame, I'll have to admit that I've met some individuals who were OSU alumni or researchers who were pretty cool.  Of course, they have to have been exceptions, right?  Cool

The difference when nationalities are involved is that stereotypes and dislikes of collecive groups and individuals are often based on genuine dislikes of current or past policies of the governments under which those individuals live.

Ah, you're back!  Now you can answer my question that you apparently didn't see in post #69.  At what hospital or university do you perform your nutritional studies and research that has allowed you to become so snotty and dismissive of all other research results except the one you keep repeating?

Why would I need that? I know ordinary food makes me fat but low carb food does not. There are no valid studies at all that show any risks of eating low carb. Why should I eat "normal" food? Personal experience and evolution is proof enough for me. It just saddens me that there are so many people that want to be helped but refuse to even try it before they make up their mind. Instead choosing to listen to the ineffective advice most doctors give them (excecise like mad and dont touch fat! = you fail to keep your weight down). Excersice is good but it does not solve all your problems, many people need to adjust their diet aswell.

OK. Apart from the caveman diet argument, which I think involves a misconception about evolution, you got me a little interested.

Three questions for you.

1)Please show us some sort of reliable resource which will show us that fat & protein isn't going to mess up the whole system (no caveman diet argument).

2) explain to us the several death cases that was allegedly caused by the Atkins diet.

3)How does this diet work for people who work out at the same time? Is it especially designed for people who just like to eat and sit still?

(hidden question. Does beer count as carb?Laughing)

I can find many sources that cite the dangers of prolonged ketosis, particularly with respect to damage to both the liver and kidneys.  I wouldn't think it's healthy for anyone undertake a carbohydrate starved diet for any extended duration for this reason.  What I do think is probably wise, and what has been suggested in this thread, is that simple carbohydrates be consumed in extreme moderation.

I would appreciate a few sources. And I'm by no means planning to take on the hardcore no carb diet, but maybe just modify the carb & fat amounts in favor of fat and against carbs a little.

I grew up in Michigan and made sure to get as far away as possible when I left.

That should have helped Michigan's IQ rebound a couple points . . .  but I still don't get why you chose this thread for your diatribe-- did some earlier post mention Michigan?

Conquistador

There was a mention of it once a few pages back with the comment of fat people living in Michigan.  I got a little carried away as the first few lines were in context while the others were a little off topic.

In Michigan, I once went to a buffet and the managers went on the P.A.  The managers said that anyone who has been here for three hours has to leave.  I feel tarnished for having to grow up there.

Michigan do have a tendency to all look alike which could suggest a few generations of inbreeding...luckily my parents are from Florida :)

I hope the manager gave everyone a partial refund.... only three hours? hardly worth the effort of putting on your elastic-waisted trousers and waterproof bib.

The problem was that the line to the buffet was out the door and there were many "Professional Eaters" who would not give up their tables and would simply eat breakfast until lunch.  Once lunch came, they shifted from waffles to pizza and fried chicken.

I don't know if there are parts of Michigan like West Virginia or not-- I was born in Iowa, myself, so I can't speak for Michigan's past.  In my area of Michigan there is a large percentage of Italian descent, a large group of Scandanavians (particularly Finns), and quite a few Native Americans, in addition to the run-of-the-mill European-descended mutts including non-locals like myself.  Some of those groups still look pretty distinct from one another.  Cool

But if you wear a waterproof bib, your shirt doesn't soak up any spilled food.  So how can you make soup later?

I stand corrected, easy to tell I'm not an American. Wink
