Biggest Blunders In Chess

Does anyone have any examples of the biggest blunders in top chess tournaments?  Something that would be interesting to see/read about?  Thanks.

"The most famous gaffe of all time was committed by Tigran Petrosian during his encounter with his Soviet colleague David Bronstein at Amsterdam 1956. Petrosian not only enjoyed a winning positional advantage, but Bronstein had let his clock run to the point where it was physically impossible for him to make four moves without overstepping the time limit.

"That was when Petrosian, overplaying his hand by moving rapidly, put his queen en prise for nothing. As ridicuous as that was, it still should not have altered the outcome, except that Petrosian, shocked at his blunder, resigned, completely forgetting about Bronstein's hopeless time situation. An incredible double blunder."

Thanks for sharing that - I found the actual game:

Did Petrosian make any comments about that game?  I'd be seriously pissed if it happened to me.

Oh my.

eternal21 Did Petrosian make any comments about that game?

If he did, it's probably a long stream of $#@%*#^$%^(&$@!!!s. But you did see the Bacrot "queen blunder" video, right? That shows how one top player handled it. It's amazing how quickly such players are able to recover from these things.

Chessbase's coverage of the First FIDE Grand Prix in Baku, round 11. But I must warn you, 2 out of the 3 players I know who watched this subsequently made an uncharacteristic queen blunder so this video may very well be cursed. I haven't been affected yet. ;)

Bellini-Gashimov is quite good, in 2002.  A double missed mate in 1 similar to Kramnik's blunder.

One of my favourites is Chandler-Polgar because it was a calculated blunder rather than a simple oversight.  He was left with exactly what he calculated he'd avoid after he'd assumed an automatic recapture.

Kramnik - Deep Fritz, 2006

"Man vs machine shocker: Kramnik allows mate in one

27.11.2006 – Vladimir Kramnik played another wonderfully profound game, piling the pressure on Deep Fritz on the black side of a Queen's Gambit Accepted, and taking the computer to the edge of defeat. As usual the computer defended tenaciously and by move 34 Fritz had equalised and the game was clearly drawn. And then Kramnik overlooked mate in one!"

You're welcome.

One of the worst has to be this howier perpetrated by Mikhail Chigorin on move 28 at the prestigeous London Tournament of 1883. Chigorin is often called "the Father of Russian Chess". No doubt, he had much better days than this!
