Bishop vs knight endgame: How to know who’s better

Knight is better when the person with the knight has most/all their pawns on the opposite color as the opponent bishop.

Bishop is better when the side with the knight has several weak pawns on the same color as the bishop

and of course, the one with the more active king has momentum off that too

Agreed with the rules, but the post should have examples to be complete.

That is the general rule of thumb. Remember, there are some exceptions.

From books, it also appears to me that if the pawn{s} are on one side a knight may be more beneficial. But if pawns are on both sides then a bishop holds the advantage.

if you looked at mine you couldn't tell that I'm garbage so you're wrong

Like it will always depend on position. Sometimes the pawn on the same color obstruct the movement of bishop and there are many more factors.

Don't forget: The bishop tends to do better when there are pawns on both sides of the board, and the knight generally does better when there pawns on only one side of the board.

As with most things, it's always the exceptions that are the rule of thumb.

As the pawns are exchanged the Bishops become stronger, the Knights weaker.
