Black d5 response to e4?

I usually take and battle the wandering Queen or push the e4 pawn and protect it on move 3 if the Queen retreats. Pros vs Cons moving a piece twice especially to start a game? It seems from then on I’m playing their game having all my moves dictated and I get in trouble

Moving a piece twice is generally a waste of a move as you want to develop tou rpieces and castle your king as soon as possible

Toy can also give up a tempo and allow your opponent to start an attack

So just take the pawn and battle the Q? If you push or take I move the piece twice. So it would be better to protect e4 on move 2. No matter what I do d5 response by black gets me out of my game!

My goal is to play Italian or Bishop opening. d5 throws a wrench into my game. I need a 3rd plan or I’m having my game dictated by black losing all advantage to first move.

So no more push. So take or defend e4? Thanks for the responses from the Brits!

How about 1.e4 d5 2.Bd3 dxe4 3.Bxe4 e5 4.Nc3 Something a bit different. Plus you are ahead in development.
