At the start of the game, white has an advantage (1/2 tempo I think) but it is so minuscule that this can't take white to victory in its own.
Because of this, black can still win. His chances are about the same as white's.

The website Chessgames.com holds regularly updated statistics on its games database. As of January 12, 2015, White had won 37.50%, 34.90% were drawn, and Black had won 27.60% out of 739,769 games, resulting in a total White winning percentage of 54.95%
Black deserves 1,36 points - then Blacks would get as much points as White, assuming draws still get equal points.
Hi all!
Have you noticed that at higher level of play (I'm speaking of GM level) most of the time the player with the black pieces is looking for a draw?.
I have downloaded the latest Tal memorial tournament and most of the games were ended in a draw. Is the new fashion in chess to look for draws with the black pieces? There are no more agressive players? The theory of the game as reached to a peak and no more improvements can be made, so a draw is the best that black can achieve with best play? Or the strongest players nowadays just do not have the balls to take a risk and play for a win?. What do you think?
I believe is the last option (or maybe I'm just to romantic with chess). So I was thinking a way to change that, and force the black player to play for a win: The score system have to be changed Instead of 1 point for a victory and 1/2 for a draw the system should be like this:
If white wins, the player wins one point.
Draw is always 1/2
If black wins the player win 1 point and a half.
What do you think?
