Drum roll please....... I agree with the point of this thread even though I'm not a fan of speed chess, definitely not bullet. But it's true, blitz and bullet ARE chess. I also agree with all those famous players opinions: Kramnik, Botvinnik, Fischer, Karpov, etc.
"Blitz and Bullet are not chess."

Did not mean to imply you were making any connection between blitz and bullet with classical. I only gave my personal opinion of each game form with my reasons.
Since it has been mentioned that a different skill set is involved, could you expand on what are the benefits of those skills and are they transferable to classical chess. My question is not an attack, but of curiosity.
I checked your profile; an avid “speed” player (12,147 games, 50% win), great puzzles and a Class A USCF OTB. You have game and potential!
I am interested in your opinion (no attack) on whether you would change your approach and spend more time on longer games and study. I equate your games to about 2000 hours, which in the business world is a full work year. If you choose to reply, it does not have to be in this forum.

bullet illustrates spamming the pieces. Hyperbullet,(15sec|0inc) illustrates premoving and checking as much as possible to distract the opponent.
It is still chess.

Speed player- you would be right. Since around the 2200 blitz games mark, 10min became rapid. So I have played around -3000 blitz games under 10min time control.
Blitz would emphasize principles much more than hard calculation. For example sometimes you can say, “this move opens lines and I’m developed- I can sacrifice a pawn for this.” While in classical such play would be easily neutralized. But you can’t just be good at attack, since everyone can attack. You’d need a very solid grasp of understanding on not allowing your opponent to build up an attacking position. In openings where you can avoid this, you will have to learn various defensive methods. Such as sacrificing material in order to prolong the game - learning various endgame techniques to dwindle a draw, and retreating your pieces while defending stoically instead of seeking counterplay.
you can see all sorts of these things just by spectating GM games live.
Of course, the downside is that you spend less time thinking critically and challenging your own thoughts to find the absolute best move - because in blitz you don’t have time to doubt yourself, you raise a habit of not checking how good your moves are. I’ve spoiled many good positions OTB because I’ve found a good move that let my opponent defend, and continually find good moves but never finding the finishing move.

I am pretty sure it hurts me. I started getting back into chess 3 months ago after being away for about 7 years, and I had resolved no blitz chess and kept that promise until a week ago.
But I will strictly limit to no more than 2-3 games a day, and mostly zero games. It encourages quick blunder playing for me. I have never lost a classic OTB game on time, so I don’t have a time management issue.

Hold on a sec, you said they were not chess and I quote "Blitz and Bullet are not chess." and now you're saying they are chess.

I have never said that blitz and bullet are not chess. Did you even read my original post.

"Blitz and Bullet are not chess." Try changing the name.
Hence the quotation marks. I'm sure you are familiar with them.
also btw @b1zmark i agree with u but i think many ppl think that blitz and bullet is stupid/moronic and thats why they say its not chess..... it is chess but i do think they have a point when they say bullet is dumb

Are blitz and bullet quality chess? No...
But they are most certainly chess, yes.
On the opposite extreme, GMs are playing bullet games with more theory and tactics than intermediate players can muster in six hours.
Agreed.
