I prefer standard....although I was going through a blitz binge a month ago.and my slow chess really took a beating from playing 5 min games...took about a month to recover from that
yeah blitz is a lot of fun....but so is standard.....but I also prefer to actually have some time to think about tactical ideas..so standard wins.I'd even play 30 min if I could....but it takes forever to find opponents for those.
Which one do you prefer and why?
I share my experiences.
Usually I play 15|10 because slow games are said to be more helpful for the improving player. However the opponents can produce long waiting sessions and I feel like 15 minutes take forever to pass. I can get bored really easily and I lose focus and I play a lot worse than usual.
On the other hand after some painful losses I tried the 10|0 time control and I enjoyed it a lot more. I feel like I'm more involved and I have to concentrate 100% throughout the whole game. Games tend to be a lot sharper, more exciting, and more tactical chances occur than in standard. However I'm not sure if blitzing affects my improvement in a good way but it's definitely more enjoyable than standard.
