Blizz tournament during a main tournament ISSUE

Almost as ridiculous as a 2700 playing in a field where 2300 something is the next highest rated player. There's going to be a balance between greed and sour grapes.

You'll never convince organizers, who take huge financial risks and often lose to turn away entries.
Nor would it be fair to.

I have to agree, it is not the 2700's fault no other high rated players entered, this is just 1 of the perks of being rated 2700 i guess!
I have a big problem with 2700+ player(s), (typically just 1 player), playing a side event at a major tournament like American Open and just sweeping the field. Why? Because it's not fair that a top-tier player should be thrown into a pool that features maybe the next best player as a 2400. It makes the result predictable, less enjoyable for the players facing the GM monster (aside from those who like the novelty of facing a strong player?), and changes the dynamic of the tournament. A few years ago I participated and scored a 7.5/10 I believe. The 4th round, my opponent literally stopped trying- the game turned into a bughouse ONLY because my opponent was trying to avoid last round pairings with this GM, whom I ended up facing. His demeanor of the GM was serious, like he was playing in the tournament of his life. This was almost a complete about-face to how I viewed this tournament- as having some fun playing blitz and trying to win $100. There was a major chasm between our attitudes, just as there as a major difference between our ratings. It took out all the fun. That's why I believe tournament directors need to change the rules such that:
Soft-core version: The top rated player in a blitz tournament cannot be more than 200 points higher rated than the next player in the field.
Medium version: No player is allowed over the rating of 2500.
Hard-core version: No player participating in the main tournament is allowed to play in the blitz tournament.
Of course, these are just ideas. I do believe it is WRONG to allow such strong players into what should otherwise be considered a casual event. Shame on that player too- since the player in question also won the main tournament and decided he wanted more money. Really?
