Blocking people

I blocked someone a few weeks ago. Somehow I get matched up with this person again. I lose for the 10th time. I go to block him again and it only gives me the option to unblock. It knew I blocked him yet matched me up with him again.
2 issues with this site... 1- Why give us parameters to set for ratings partners then disregard them, giving us people three times our rating?
2- When we lose to those people 10 times in a row, we block them, then we're matched with them AGAIN?

I can't be the only one experiencing this.

My understanding is that Blocking only works in the various Pools, if you are paired in a tournament I do not think chess.com can block those matches. You could be playing in your usual tournament at your normal time of the day and unfortunately it is also the player you wish to block likes playing the same tournament and time of the day.

Thank you, Hartsville54. I don't play in tournaments or pools. I just play mostly unrated matches. I want to practice with people my own speed. I don't want to play 1700s when I'm a 1258 in 10min, or 1600s when I'm a 960 in 3min. Why do they have parameters before matches? I implore the powers that be to go back to the old way, as it was a year or so ago when you set parameters...THEY WERE PARAMETERS! I'm a mature adult, I can wait for someone NEAR my rating...or come back when there are people of my ilk playing. GIVE US BACK OUR PARAMETERS!!

Do you have your seek settings turned up to the max? What are your seek settings?

FWIW, the rating restriction doesn't apply to unrated games (not sure why), and blocking doesn't prevent pairing with said people (also not sure why). Blocking just prevents communication between two parties, not playing against each other. I agree it's unfortunate. There are plenty of people I'd rather not be paired with. Just have to abort if a game won't be worth your time.

The blocking part shouldn’t be the case.

Could be just an unrated game thing then. I've even been paired with players who've had their accounts closed for fair play in unrated games.

also, the “rated” toggle is off. evidently.

When you go into custom game, you should see this rating range thingy. Just adjust it and then send out the seek. It should work just fine.

Have been told by a mod this doesn't apply to unrated games. Plus have found that to be the case myself.

InsertInterestingNameHere

really. Huh, didn’t know that. I’ll delete my message then. Does the seek settings under “settings” still apply or nah?

Drewyknot

Parameters work when games are rated, but not for unrated games. I want chess.com to let us set parameters for unrated games too. We should be able to prescribe our own opponents for further development. Im not certain where "seek settings" is, InsertInterestingNameHere...but I have the games set to plus and minus 25, same when I click on the gear, then "play," I've set incoming and outgoing to plus 25. Thanks!

They're working on it as fast as they can.

I'm not aware the issues raised are being worked on by anyone, let alone acknowledged as an actual problem.

Without wishing to be rude or discriminatory there are lots of people on the site. I have never blocked but I think if anyone is uncomfortable don't hesitate. Chess is enjoyable not or shouldn't be a playground for unpleasant people or stalkers, I've not found any anyway and people can abandon a game for a number of valid reasons, I simply get on and play the next game, there's always another opponent waiting on chess.com!!!

The post I wanted to quote didn't show up properly -
So I'll copy/paste it instead - and then respond to it below.
(always got to put in spacer letters beforehand at top and bottom - because chess.com hasn't fixed the glitch that forces the margins to remain indented)

That's a good post - and I believe its basically accurate.
But would it apply to all aspects of team/tournament/club chess?
I don't know.

But point:  It would be better if chess.com provided a selective venue blocking menu.
Selective blocking according to the venue where the block is wanted.
Instead of always global.

This sounds like the kind of thing the management could and will fix..
If members can get through to the professional staff enough - get their attention.
Perhaps could even fix easily.  People try to defeat the blocking feature.
They find loopholes.  But those loopholes could be closed off.

But the "ratings" of players who play mostly unrated games are often wildly inaccurate.

What is your real rating?  1154? 1254? 1354?

What makes you think other players' playing unrated are accurate?

Well when you're a 1250 and you get put against 1800s or 400s it doesn't have to be very accurate.
