Blunders

What practices do you adopt to reduce the incidents of blunders?

In a lot of games I play well for 40 or so moves then completely miss an obvious fork, pin or other tactic. Then the game is lost after playing ok.

1. Sit on  your hands when playing a game.   (Except for rapid transit)

2. Write a : Before I Make A Move List (check it 2x before making a move)

If you would like  to know more please let me know.

If you are under 2000 USCF or  FIDE do not play rapid transit. it is bad for your game

I think more than anything it is carelessness. Ususally the fork or threatening move is only one or two moves away but in my analysis of moves I miss it. Maybe its my peripheral vision lacking. I am not taking in all the opposition pieces across the board and what threats they present. Maybe I need to systematically look at all pieces each move to see what threats and opportunities they present.

I read that someone once said that the winner of a chess game is the player that makes the second last mistake!! Or words to that affect!! Smile
