Bobby Fischer

Hi All.  A while back I dared to ask if Bobby Fischer should be honored by chess fans and got a few stiff replies that it should never happen. I could see why because if his irrational outbursts and hateful comments. But the chess player was a wonderful promoter of the game and probably heads the best seller list in chess literature. The game was transformed by him in many ways including the scrapping of adjournments and playing the game out in one session so creating a fairer situation for all. That said, he was controversial in his demands and went into self-imposed exile because his demands were not met. The films and documentaries about him show that side of his nature graphically. But look at the games he played and his achievements. All without a chess engine! Consider his dedication to the game from a young age and how he made headline news when most of the world knew little about the game. Chess was never as popular as when Fischer was around and playing. Just how he might be honored I don't really know. There is no memorial tournament dedicated to him that I know of. Perhaps as time goes on something might just happen to put the name Bobby Fischer back up in lights?
