I consider B.F. THE GREATEST CHESS PLAYER OF ALL TIME HE IS THE REASON I LEARNED HOW TO PLAY, HE WAS A WESTERN HERO WHO BEAT THE RUSSIANS AT THIER OWN GAME. I hope one day he returns to the Chessboard.

Derelict

1) The Russians may've been the best but it wasn't their own game.

2) Bobby Fischer was amazing, and any reason to start chess is a good reason, but expand your mind to other greats. BF is a violently foolish man who was never able to respect the game no matter how phenomenal he may have been.

Nationalism is as atrocious as racism or zionism, we are one human family.I love Bobby Fischer, unfortunately there are consequences when one speaks truth to power. Will Bobby go out a la Alekhin? Shot in the back while studying over his chessboard by the very same forces assembled against our champion today.

Stop calling all the soviet people russians. It is not correct. USSR contained not only Russia but other 14 republics, such as Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and so on.

About Bobby. We all hope...

But now he is 64. I think he will not be so competitive  now as he was in 1960-1970-ies. Age is a serious factor in pfofessional chess. There are some younger players who can be at least equal oponets for him now.

Most Americans see all from the former USSR as "Russians" , I know this is wrong and I have been guilty of it myself. Its like most Europeans refer to all Americans as "Yankees" (and not only Europeans do this) and yet I am from Georgia in the USA and if you go to the US Southeast calling everyone there "yankees" you can get seriously hurt!

Bobby Fischer died this morning and i feel terrible about it, I know that B.F. was a bitter man toward the end of his life. But what he did on the Chessboard was unreal. R.I.P. Bobby

I think this says more about Georgia rednecks than it does about Europeans.

Well, that might be debated , but your use of the derogatory slur "rednecks" says plenty about you. Smile

I'm with Reb.

But let's think about Fischer's legendary career. Farewell Bobby.

I cannot seperate him from his bigotry.  Good riddance, he was a stain on humanity.

R.I.P. Fischer, may your brilliance never be remembered and your occasional bigotry be forgotten.

I think it would be a horrible mistake to allow the world to "forget" his bigotry, unbeliever.

if we did that, then the history books would be nothing more than fairy-tales.

-- we all consider Hitler for example, a genocidal maniac, a villian, perhaps some of us would even call him a monster.

But the truth is he was not the devil, but mortal; human like the rest of us. I'm sure if we looked hard enough we called all find something beautiful in his being. It is curious to wonder, what if he had a real talent for art?

If we look at the man, any man; as he is, then we can see something that is real.

To err is human but to forgive is divine.
