Okay. That's it. You have 10 minutes to throw me under. After that, I'm turning this brain box off and go exercise.

Starting now....

....and something else. GPE happens to be a really good player. You'd be best advised not to poo-poo his opinions of past players. He knows his chess history.

Last time a 2100 bullet challenge me, he was lucky to have two draws; he at least have a FIDE rating of 1790. Interesting this 2100 bullet player has avoided my challenges I send him. GPE has no fide rating and just a woodpusher. I can't think of one insideful comment GPE made in this forum.

Chance of GPE being genuine are as remote as a DVD controller.

....so long....

I can feel the tension. Is Lala about to "crack" and throw in the towel?

You know with Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition, you can play against a variety of GMs, including Bobby. I dug out an old copy and just started playing a 10/3 game. I let Bobby have white.

I was a bit surprised when he opened with c3. I countered with N-f3. Well, we got 22 moves in and Bobby was up one point. I was surprised that I was doing that well.

Then I said to myself "This isn't really playing Bobby!" Plus I'm having a major pain in the lower back at the moment, which is annoying. Plus the sterile "game" was annoying. Two strikes and you are out.

So, I just aborted the game. I would never, never do that if I was sitting across from Bobby!

Maybe tomorrow when I am feeling better, I'll give it another go. Maybe not. Playing against a computer is...is...how do you say? Sheet.

Nessajja

Chess computers and software are the death of chess.

Harvey_Wallbanger

   Yes and no.

There is no real chess except OTB.

The good thing, though, we can play chess day or night, all over the world, without ever leaving home. Plus all the learning tools, tactical puzzles, chess videos, etc.

I remember long, long before computers. It was much harder to learn only from books. And it wasn't so easy to play many games with so many people.

Chess is not a "team" game...as are so many sports. It is a game of one-on-one...which I like. Which all chess players must like (or they wouldn't play it).

Overall, I think there are a lot more people playing a lot more chess games because of computers and the internet. This is good. But so many of the games seem to be so mechanical. This is not good.

Overall, I think we are better off. But I would throw the computer in the trash if I could find more OTB games more readily. Very few of my friends or family play.

   So...what can I say?

I actually feel embarrassed for him in this one....

A thought...

I said that playing against a computer is "sheet". Well, to clarify, what I meant was it is akin to having a relationship with a sex doll (not me...I'm long time married), shadow boxing, target practicing with a water pistol, karaoke singing at the corner bar, skipping a jump rope... In short, good practice but not the main event.

I do play a couple of games against a computer, daily, and do 25 or more tactical puzzles. And I typically have 50 games going. But meh...maybe I need to get into the car and find a new club (my club died a few years ago) or some touraments.

   New adventures, here I come...

Haters do gotta hate.

Now I have X_PLAYER_J_X trolling me calling me a racist.

Nessajja

I think it has something to do with a joke I posted that he thought was racist. It wasnt, but he knows best in his own mind. So I mention his bad manners to Lola on this thread and now I'm hated and probably trolled indefinately. Don't you just love this website ?

Nessajja

You should have a look at the "what can be done to get the forums back to life" thread.

guy needs help, but I don't recognize the condition.

I have to totally agree. For someone to win the world chess championship without having won every game on the way to it shows they are a dull patzer. Real chess players do this by winning every game. It's because they're so creative.

[Awaiting savage personal attack at my temerity in agreeing with this inciteful observation].

FIDE awarded a GM title to Enrico Paoli in 1996 (?) at age 88.

So, hope is being held out for you Single. And play like a bohemian !

The_Ghostess_Lola

The thing I see about most winning games by BF is that they lack an interesting element to them. There is no intrinsic magnet pulling you n2 his style....you know, grabbing your attention.

What I find intriguing ?....is his losses ! They are way more interesting 'cuz it took a bohemian style to beat the human machine. Don't you find that fascinating ?

Did he have that firework play in him ? Well, one will never know now. And his "bohemian" portfolio didn't show enuf games to get a workable sample.

You should read Edmar Mednis's 1974 iconic writing, "How to Beat Bobby Fischer". He is pretty much saying the same thing....from the synopses I've read.
