He did wonders for chess in the U.S.A.
Until he abdicated his title and went into seclusion. USCF membership later cratered, and the USCF nearly went under.

As for the ''karma'', returning on the emotion of a successful life, it may be said that the Fischer was Lasker. As the soul of a genious floats only on high waters and seeks only the light or success.
An amazing player. He's certainly one of the ten best who ever lived, probably one of the top five. His celebrity and influence cannot be overstated--you weren't alive in the early 70's if you hadn't heard of Bobby Fischer. An intense competitor combined with endless preparation and talent, Fischer was the greatest player of the 60's and early 70's.
He was crazy. His psychosis and paranoid delusions got worse as the years went by. But in his prime, no one was better.
Nope he was a runner
Oh, what the hell, I'll bite. What do you mean by 'runner', clappison2?

Too chicken to play Karpov. Fischer didn't want to risk his title.
I don't think it was lack of courage so much as increased crazy that led him to walk away from the board. For what it's worth, I'd place Karpov ahead of Fischer in an all-time ranking of greatest players.
He was a champion until he went cuckoo and turned into a rabid anti-semite.
I think the anti-semitic statements were all wrapped up in crazy. What Fischer's genuine beliefs were as opposed to what his messed up mind was telling him became increasingly difficult to decipher as the years went by. The statements he made, in and of themselves, are abhorrent, of course.
Are there psychiatrists here? LOL! Fischer never was psychotic. He had weird ideas, true but then anyone is entitled to that.
Bobby Fischer.....Real champion ?
Talk about flogging a dead horse.
Yeah, it's a lame argument, for sure.
To the best of my knowledge, Bobby Fischer really existed, and he really won the '72 championship. Therefore, he was a real champion. All of the nutty things he did after that don't invalidate the '72 results.
Fisher single handedly increased the popularity of chess in the USA, in like fashion Anand has don the same for India and Carlsen for Norway. However, unlike Bobby, I doubt Vishy and Magnus will ever betray their country and praise terrorist for attacking their homelands.
Fischer was great then he went loco. Murphy was greater and went más loco. Is stark raving mad the fate of all great American Chess players? if so I hope Naka never becomes World Champ then.

Lots of Roman citizens rebelled against Rome when it ceased to be a Republic and became an Empire.
Is the USA still a Republic? Perhaps Fischer just sees a few moves ahead ...
I do not think he is as crazy as everyone preaches him to be. The Jewish media (+70% of media execs are Jewish) of course seems to have an influence in shaping people's perspectives, this forum is evidence of that.
this is the best bobby fischer thread today
