Bobby Fischer's psychiatric condition

A great pity BF was perhaps unable to better manage the pressures of his fame. Or did he just feel somewhat burnt out and the prospect of facing a younger man Karpov did not appeal. Many potentially great games lost as a consequence. Some parallels can possibly be drawn with Morphy.

Fischer was weirdly entertaining - from what I've watched from footage. They say he was very charming...and I've never heard any woman (who knew him) ever complain about being put off by him. Does he have any children ?

MrDamonSmith

Well thats complicated. A Philipino woman tricked him into thinking he was the father of her child (don't know how he fell for that one he looks as much like that child as Michael Jackson did to his supposed kids) & after he died they did dna testing only to find out he wasn't the father after all. So it appears he died thinking that was his daughter. The woman was wanting part of his money he had left when he died. Shameful.

He was a real charmer and certainly someone to admire as he fits right into the concept of American exceptionalism, eh?

Pretty much like you, but with chess skills.

No, that's your social awkwardness showing.

Fischer cannot be assessed by the mastodons he was hunting.

You pulled it out of...somewhere.  30 seconds on Google would have told you there was nothing.  Instead of being responsible, you just float the rumor out there.

Do you believe that in Las Vegas people are going to knock you out and surgically steal a kidney?  Maybe you can spread that one around as well. ;)

MY social arkward ??  Neither one married. Neither one had children.  Were does MY awkwardness come into play DR ??.        And Robotjazz;   "can't remember where I read this"   CHECK POST # 1.

Let's give Heinrich Himmler a pass for the same reason.

Please. You are looking for excuses here. You are apologizing for this man. There is no apology or excuse. He was a terrible human being and spread misery wherever he could. I'm glad he's gone.

Glass-Spider

Miserable people find someone to blame for their misery.

You knew him then?

Because if it's not on Google, it doesn't exist.  Right.

Go stuff your robotic hive mind up you know where, you freaking troll.

I think it's unfair to call Bobby out when one hasn't sat down to talk with him. Did he commit any felonies ? (maybe a misdemeanor here or there....IDK) I've heard people say that if you weren't talking about chess (he had other limited interests) he was a normal everyday person. And, if you were nice to him, he was nice back.

I'll reserve my judgement....outside that he was very misunderstood.

It happens in New Jersey, as well as other places...

I don't actually know where, but I'm going to assume it's "your robotic hive ass"?

TheGrobe

The same could be said of the need for people to vilify him.

TheGrobe

I never met the man, so I reserve judgement.

I'd wager, however, that it's not a study in extremes though many on either side would seem to like to paint that picture.

The_Ghostess_Lola

He's dead everybody okay ?....He's dead. Leave him alone. He's not like some felonious criminal so quit comparing. Someone show me where he was convicted of so much as a crime. And I'm not defending him either....he said some really dumb things in his time....we all know that - but he wasn't a criminal. A tax evasion accusation is not a crime until convicted (let alone hurting someone).

Hmmm, nope, I Googled it -- there's no such thing.

I can't believe butt tickler is the one calling me a troll. Im fairly certain it's in the book that is like a double biography of Bobby and Spassky, Each chapter follows them both as they rise from obscurity until the final matchups. I'm not trolling, read a book.

How thoughtful of you. Do you reserve judgement on anyone you haven't met? Not just people like Josef Stalin or the guys who blew up the Boston Marathon, but how about your typical neighborhood racists? How about the head of the Ku Klux Klan, or the American Nazi Party? Reserving judgement there? Maybe he plays a good chess game...

There's a whole lot of shameful stupidity in this thread - built around a lot of denial. Your big chess hero was a terrible person who said cruel and ugly things about much of the innocent world. If you reserve judgement, then there's not much to admire about you either.
