Break Definition

Hi, guys!! Would you help me on defining the term "BREAK"? Is this a good definition?

"A break is a chess term used when the capture of a particular pawn disrupt a defensive wall and opens lines for an attack or advance of a pawn."

Yeah, the definition of pawn break is pretty flimsy wherever you look.

Basically it's a when a pawn attacks another pawn, and a pawn trade can't be avoided.

In particular it's attacking an enemy pawn that is unable to move forwards because it's blocked by one of your pawns.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's good to capture right away, and sometimes you shouldn't capture at all, but it's an important mechanism because if we imagine a game of chess where pawns never capture it's pretty obvious it's a boring draw. Pawn breaks generate activity by opening lines (files, ranks, diagonals) for the other pieces that would otherwise be blocked by those pawns.

Thank you!
