breaking 1400

If this question has been stomped into the ground please direct me to the  post(s)..

O.K. here's the Q...

You all know everybody starts at 1200..well I am now right under 1400..And I feel as if, or when, I hit 1400 I've passed the first milestone or whaterver you want to call it..

Would it be fair to assume, or say, that the first jump of percieved improvement would be around, or at 1400??

As a side bar, It seems to me and natrually so, that equal strengh players seem to gravitate toward eachother. I generally play with the same fellows and their numbers are close to mine.. I think this would be a natural tendancy or am I wrong on that observation too,for lack of a better term..

Again are there "steps" of achievement like 1400, 1700, 2100, ect. or am I just a nut case?Embarassed

Thanks in advance for your input..

Regards,

Alex"Sully"Sullivan

P.S. Thanks to Newbie, and Goldname for thier patience and time for playing with me on non-rated games. A piece of the humility pie is sometimes a good thing.

If you want to claim it, you have already passed your statistical milestone. Your current "online" rating of 1362 is slightly above the average of 1343.
On the other hand, your blitz and bullet ratings are somewhat below the average. (available from the same link)  I guess I wouldn't let my superiority dance go on too long.
I have no idea of what to conclude from the difference. Perhaps you can explain.
At any rate, these ratings are nothing but the most general measure of your chess improvement. They are not comparable with tournament ratings from the USCF.

I disagree. The first milestone would be keeping the 1200. You've achieved that one already!

Play, think. Think while playing. Play and then think. You will hit 1400.

First, thank you gor your input, seem as though my Q has been answered

In fine order..

notmtwain, to answer your q, I suppose the lower score in live chess is due to the fact I cannot analyse the game as long and I usually had a few before I start. (to help the nerves).Embarassed

Benzodiazepine, I wonder if you might have been born in 1956..and possible of Polish decent. It's just a guess because of your board name..Laughing

Thanks again peeps.

Just to let you know: the first milestone is 1000, the second is 1300, the third is 1500. Getting to any milestone beyond that is much harder than 1000 to 1300 or 1300 to 1500. To get better, just do many many tactics and play slower games like 30 minutes.

Well, I really appreciate your input Sire r2d2bb8. I do TT every day and have logged in abt 40 hrs w/ a fairly deep analyse and comment on TT. Yes, besides tactics I focus on turned 3 day jobbies. happy.png I will!, I will do 15 and 30 minutes.

1500 seems like a hard steep climb for a 63 YO nut job such as ma'self.. Not only is chess a blast butz it is very inexpensive, and one can battle under any conditions unlike quick-draw w/ my Colt SSA burning through +3000 rds/week...  Ohhhh my ears... ohh da' pain.. happy.png

Also, you need to play more games of any time control. About 1k games should do it.
