Brilliant Moves can be worse than Best Moves

I played against the 400 Boshi bot for fun and I played a brilliant move. However this was rated as +8.79 by the engine and actually the best move for that position (which I didn't play) was rated +11.7.
The reason it was brilliant was because it was a sacrifice that could have lead to a faster mate in some lines. I have screenshots but I don't know how to upload them here.
However, brilliant moves used to be moves that were not only brilliant but also surpassed the engine's initial evaluation of the position, which my move in this game does not. Seems like chess.com's criteria for a brilliant move has changed and focuses more on how creative a move is than its effectiveness?

Brilliant moves are moves that sacrifice material and are good or best. They don't have to be the best in the position.
