Bring back old chess bots!

Many of us really miss the old chess bots like Mittens, M3GAN, and Beth. They were not just opponents — they had personality, stories, and made playing difficult but fun as well.

The new bot feels different, and while it’s technically advanced, those classic bots had charm and nostalgia that made Chess.com bots unique, not gonna lie.

So here’s a small request from the community — please bring back the old bots (even as a special mode or category like nostalgia event or something like that). Many players would love to relive those memories.

I am also a chesstuber myself and I want that, people can also get to play against these bots again : D

Some old bots can't return as they were promotions and were partnerships and/or otherwise licensed. That's especially true for the M3gan and Beth related bots.

If they kept other, non-licensed bots active, the not page would become unweildly after a short time. That's even if the bot code was designed to handle that many effectively.

Yes bro those Senpai. Mittens, The Mechanical Turk were amazing

While The new kings like Cabana Santa, etc are not that good if we talk

even i beated santa 4 times and lost 7 times

But yeah we really used some 67iq to beat those bots they were really challenging

i miss if chess.com sees this post and bring back

But if they really back those bots i would be really thanks to Chess.com

because i get rating im playing like 1700 but im 800

its really wild

Chess.com should really bring old bots

He wants to play with those bots cuz they made him struggle or give him frustration. Maybe he wants to experience it again?

I think you may not have read my bio. I’ve clearly mentioned that I’m a state-level chess player and have competed in official state tournaments (SGFI State Meet – WB 69th). So it’s not a “maybe” — through chess, I’ve already made several real friends and played over-the-board events. I’ve even had the opportunity to play against a WFM and an AGM.

As for AI, I understand that many people are frustrated about how fast it’s growing, especially with concerns around jobs — that’s a valid fear. But at this point, AI is unavoidable. I’m not protesting for AI to replace humans; I’m simply asking for certain features to be brought back.

I’m also not blindly pro-AI everywhere. In creative fields like art, I agree that AI shouldn’t replace human creativity. However, AI as an accelerator is something I support — for example, using AI to upscale video quality or analyze chess games. Chess engines fall into that same category: they help us practice, analyze, and improve.

And about the “virtual girlfriend” comment — no, I don’t want one. You’re entitled to your opinion, and this is simply my counter to the points you raised.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the person you replied to will say that your entire paragraph which you took time to write is "yap". But, that aside, well said.
