Bringing out the WORST in your opponent

Recently, I believe my style of play/ behaviour in a tournament game brought out the worst in my opponent, and led to victory while I solely played to draw. What do you think of this, positive or negative comments, you’re not going to hurt my feelings - I'm curious to hear feedback or similar experiences?

Scenario is a 1600-1700 tournament, one game left in my group of four, with myself and my opponent tied for first place. We drew the first game and this was the second. My tie breaker points exceeded his, so I was playing to draw. The game is here: https://www.chess.com/daily/game/176008776

1) Mid-game and a pawn down I mentioned I would be happy to accept a draw - just a bit of banter while down material! Also, since I had more tie-breaker points s/he clearly couldn't accept a draw! Just a bit of banter... no reply though.

2) Shortly afterwards, still down a pawn, I apologized for unimaginative moves and mentioned again I'm just playing to draw.  This elicited a thoughtfully response, "You should always look for an active opportunity". Ok, yes, I get it, they’re taking this seriously and they don't really want to chat.

3) Meanwhile, I'm just shuffling my rooks, listlessly grazing along my first rank, maybe a peek-a-boo to the second then back again, took a little mission to the seventh (on the open b-file, French Defense), then right back home. I wasn't trying to change the world, just advance a tournament round versus a stronger player.

4) Lastly, the game took 19 days for 60 moves per side (on 3 day/move clocks). Mostly due to time zones (5-6 hours difference) and for about 5 days I was on vacation in Mexico, drinking tequila and skydiving (neither particularly conducive to chess). My opponent would generally move within 10 mins of my moves; they played brisk pace, while I played my pace. (Btw -  we finished before 48% of other games, so by no means behind the curve.)

In the end, they got frustrated, couldn't break the kingside, had no progress on queen side, I avoided minor piece trades (who doesn't have a 50 move draw on the top 10 bucket list, just behind the smothered mate!) and they wasted a lot of time trying to generate activity. Finally, I inched up a kingside attack, traded my bishop for a rook, and caught them out on a pretty simple mate. Really though, neither of us played that well – both below 50% on best moves, and CAPS of 80% (them) vs. 70% (me).

So, aside from point 4 which (no, I would never purposely slow-play a daily to frustrate my opponent, that's totally retarded and I give a kick in the shins to those that do so), does anyone have similar experiences in match play?
