Brute force

I've heard people talking about winning by brute force...does that mean that one player makes a series of moves from which there are only set responses/ only one possible move replies? In other words the opponent's hands are tied?

What does brute force mean exactly?

BloodyJack

In computing it basically means checking every option in order to find a solution.

For actual human chess players the term is rather subjective, it all depends on where you read it. I would take brute force to mean an uncompromising crush, taking few risks so that everything can be accurately calculated.

As BloodyJack said, it can really take on many meanings. If refering to human players it probably means ultra aggressive play, just trying to plow through their opponents.

Right thanks.

Several youtube videos I have watched of games has the commentator mentioning that such and such a position can be won by 'force'

Wasn't sure what it meant exactly
