A thing that has to be clear is that i am not aiming to study all the possible variations without knowing why i should do X moves. I want to understand them, play long games and then apply what I learned so it'll be much easier

Hello,
Is it possible to build an opening repertoire (eg. 1 e4) with the computer (Stockfish)?
Basically, what I am trying to do here, is to try different black 1.... defenses against 1 e4, check what the computer would do, understand it and create my own opening repertoire against specific variations.
Would that work? If so, why? If not, why?
