How many points is a guard worth? And a witch?

Martin0

The guard is about 3. Slightly less than a knight in the opening, slightly more than a knight in the endgame.

The witch has a lot more dynamic value. The witch is a lot better in the opening compared to the endgame. Many think the witch is worth 5, but I think that is a huge overestimation. I don't have exact estimations myself, but for the sake of argument let's say 2.5 in the opening and 1.5 in the endgame to give you an idea how much less I think it is worth compared to most people. I think part of the reason people value it highly is that many blunders are caused by the opponents witch and people don't realize how much weaker a piece becomes when it can not capture anything by itself.

Thanks!

Anything strange? You captured my pawn dxe5. I recaptured fxe5.

I try not to think of he witch in material terms at all, but rather, if you have a witch and your opponent does not, you have a development/maneuvering advantage.
