Some players DO look for checkmate, and they find it too:

People who only move fast are easy -- I've started to use this opening a lot in 3/0 games against such people Tongue out

The people that lose against this try to set up cheapos and then when I defend they get confused.  The people that win against this open lines and put pressure on the position and win pretty easily.

Blitz and bullet games with no increment involve a lot of clock management.  With any kind of increment you can focus a lot more on the position because after you get that winning position all you need is a few seconds.

When you blunder away your rook with premoves, then win your opponent's queen with tactics:

1/0 games are bad for you ziryab Wink

Given that black could have defended against checkmate with 18. ... f6 (i.e. black made the worst blunder it is possible to make in chess), I'm not sure you've made a very strong case for bullet chess! Smile Empirically, bullet has more horrible blunders than blitz, and is decided by time more often as well. But it is a game that can be fun to play, and doesn't really aspire to be anything more. Perhaps the reason people feel the need to sneer at bullet is a feeling that bullet players somehow get one up on other chess players by succeeding in playing at the fastest speed.

bullet chess is dumb because you never try to checkmate? Doesn't that make you dumb, not the game? Your opponent always run out of time? So you always win and you're rated like 3000?

From my experience I'm better than the average bullet/blitz player at playing against the clock and when my opponent is low on time I use "dirty" tricks like desperado checks to kill their pre-move or confuse them in general but I still sneer at bullet as a throw away version of the game.  Sure it's fun and I play it, but they're never games to take seriously e.g. getting worked up over a win or a loss.

Just saying that just because I don't have much regard for bullet doesn't mean I'm bad at it either Smile

I quit smoking easily becuase I never suffered addiction to nicotine; I drink when I'm thirsty, get drunk when I want, and my only problem with alcohol is a fondness for expensive bourbon (while I fish with "low-end" fly rods: $150-$200). Given all that, why is my incurable addiction to junk chess "bad"?

lol, well I guess in the grand scheme of things it's good for you Laughing

Although maybe any incurable addiction is bad heh.  I was just talking about bad for your standard game... half joking of course, because I also play "too much" blitz.

Well, there used to be a time before premove had been invented. At that time, users connected to the most popular internet chess servers using a third party client software. Premove was invented by an author of the third party client. There's very little the host server could do about it.

When it was first invented, a lot of the strong bullet players didn't like it. It gave patzers a way to make bad moves even faster. Eventually though, once the idea is out there, these things become pervasive to the point the users don't want to give them up. If you outlaw premoves on your server, players will go elsewhere.

thanks for the background info, I would like to see your final sentence put to the test for blitz & bullet

Another flawed bullet game. Black really set this up :-)

AtahanT

15. Bf8 is lights out for black :-p

KairavJoshi

Elroch

I've only just realised AtahanT meant 15. Bh8!

Nice move. How did I miss it at the time? Smile

The above is already pretty well refuted, but you can't possibly say that I'm not playing for mate in this game:

Loomis,

Black played a strong and principled game straight out of Watson's French. Well done!
